I ♥ It In the CAN - Northern Ohio
International project...local focus.
Small effort...BIG impact!
MAsT: Greater Cleveland is proud to help spearhead this right here in Ohio!
This program was started by a Philadelphia area FetLife member. Since then, cities, states, and now groups all over globe have been coming on board!
The premise is simple:
Please just put aside one can per month or just wait til later in the year and give us 11 cans/items closer to the due date in November . Better yet, go through your pantries... you might be surprised at what isn't being used. The collection is taken at the perfect time, right before the holidays and will help tremendously.
Below are words from the person that came up with this idea:
A few weeks back I did an impromptu can and toy drive and I was overwhelmed at the results.
The look on the PAL (Police Athletic League) members said it all...
They were amazed at your generosity, as was I.
It got me thinking.
And that mixed with a dose of insomnia that evening after taking a nap like an idiot, I couldn’t go to bed without getting this into motion.
So with it being a New Year and all, this is a perfect time to roll out.
Operation “I ♥ It In the CAN”
Crass? Yes.
Catchy? Well I hope so.
This is my vision. As you may or may not know, food pantries and feeding the homeless or those in need is a passion of mine.
I remember being in soup kitchen once in the dead of winter and seeing a little girl alone in flip flops and a wind breaker. She took her mashed potatoes and put them in the pouch of her wind breaker. That was it for me. I knew that in this great country of ours, no one should be without a meal.
I want to start a drive today.
This is what I am asking of you.
One can per month. Please just put aside one can per month.
By November of this year, you will have 11 cans.
Now I have 317 friends, that’s 3487 can goods!
That’s a lot of food people.
Now I know that there are some that will gladly just wait till November and give me 11 cans.
That’s great, won’t be turned away.
But looking at that can, and then seeing two , then three and so on is what I am trying to accomplish. To show that a small thing when put together with a lot of small things equals really big things. We are a force.
We have the collective ability to make life easier for those that are unable to feed their families.
BASIC INFORMATION:
1. This is a food drive , NO $ is to ever cross hands.
I want to feed folks not be audited. If someone asks for CASH they are NOT part of this operation , and should be kicked squarely in the nuts and or vag.
2. If you have a question about anything, get it from the horse's mouth... email us here
3. ALL items collected will be given to LOCAL (OHIO) charities.
NO, we do not want cans mailed to Philadelphia! What we are trying to do is just show the power of our kind and do it collectively.
4. Please look at expiration dates. Try to find things that go into 2013 or beyond.
Like six degrees of separation, please spread the word. Your actions make a difference. What you do, especially thanks to FetLife, is seen and noticed. You CAN - and do - influence others to participate by your involvement. Just think of the impact one can a month collected from even a portion of your FetFriends; the potential is staggering!
Each one...Feed one!
Ps. I Want to have all the food together no later than November. Please feel free to drop off canned goods at the MAsT: Greater Cleveland meetings.
